http://www.ecosdesanmiguel.com/templ...ws&newsid=5360 American Killed in San Miguel Allende By: El Sol del Bajio 19-01-2011 San Miguel Allende, Gto .- This half-day was found the corpse of an American-born man who was allegedly killed during the night in his home in this colonial city, which lay for 10 years. The maid was the one who discovered the body when he arrived with the intention of cleaning up and found him in a room with a plastic bag covering his face, so everything indicates that the cause of death was mechanical asphyxia. Preliminary investigations suggest that it was a robbery, but has not ruled out any line of investigation. Residents of the colony Allende, which recorded the finding, mentioned that the now deceased, identified as Peter Nuyde, about 80 years old and retired in the neighboring country to the north, was a selfless person who loved teaching English, free to anyone who requests it

A woman who told authorities that for over 24 years works as a maid of the victim, said today that approximately at 9:05, when he arrived home, she noticed that everything was closed as usual . However, upon entering the room of Mr. Peter, found him lying on the side of his bed on the floor, so it asked for help to authorities. Red Cross paramedics reported that the man had no vital signs and had already died. Although the motive could be robbery, the suspect has not been confirmed by authorities. |

In 2002 I was staying at Casita de la Flores for a short stay. Next door to the Casita lived Mr Mudge. By chance I met him in the little alley way that led to the main road. It was a pleasant encounter. He invited me into his home. It was apparent he enjoyed showing his home and giving a kind of history of what he had done in the way of improvements. We had lunch and talked of his involvments in the SMA community. It was a chance meeting but not uncommon in my days in SMA. A lady freind once called these encounters "A San Miguel evening", where folks, by chance hit it off and just enjoyed the moment. Peter was just that sort of person. Ready to open his home and chat about what he loved doing, namely restoring old run-down homes. As the years passed on he'd become more rickety and perhaps had let his guard down. I enjoyed our brief "San Miguel Evening" and I suppose many others over the years had known and enjoyed his company in a similar way.

Not only was a plastic bag over his head to asphyxiate him, but he had been stabbed at least 15 times by a sharp object, according to the latest report below from El Correo.
Only based on what I hear from TV shows and news reports, aren't multiple stab wounds usually a sign of a crime of passion? And passion can include jealousy, revenge, greed, and honor killings as well as love. Peter Mudge was a director of the Biblioteca House and Gardens tours for many years. Here is the website of his advertisement for his rental property at his house: http://micasaescondida.com/ According to the ad for his apartment on Trip Advisor, he was an interior designer. And below is the link to the Correo story and a computer translation. It compares the murder to that of the woman business owner in Guadiana last September, in which there have been arrests and the investigation is ongoing. Carol Schmidt http://correo-gto.com.mx/notas.asp?id=205164 Kill foreign By: American Ortiz / SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE, Wednesday, January 19, 2011 The victim, aged 85, his face covered with a bag and had stab injuries. Investigate robbery as a motive. An American in 85 years, who already had more than 25 years living in San Miguel de Allende, was killed inside his home located in Colonia Allende. The maid made the finding, and immediately reported it to the Central Emergency 066. The victim, Peter C. Mudge 85 years old, had her head covered with a polythene bag and multiple stab injuries on the body weapon. According to neighbors of the deceased, Peter had at least eight years in the private Las Flores # 3 interior 6, it was a good person, even taught English at no cost. The report Minutes after 9:00 Tuesday morning, 066 Emergency Central received a report of a woman who claimed that in one of three private houses in the Calle Las Flores, Colonia Allende, was the body of a man. At the scene came elements of Public Safety, who confirmed the report and immediately alerted the Red Cross paramedics to come to check on the victim, originally from the United States. After confirming the death, the house was guarded by security officials, who notified the Attorney General and Ministerial Police arrived minutes later and 4 of the Public Ministry Agency, who initiated the integration of the preliminary investigation, established under the number 34 / 2011. The finding The Attorney General of the State (PGJE) reported that the man was found by his maid minutes after 09:00 am on Tuesday, lying next to his bed. Also, REPORTING had worked with the victim over 24 years, said that when she came inside the building 3 6 Calle Privada de las Flores of the colony Allende, the doors were closed as usual. But upon entering the property, noticed a shortage of American's belongings such as televisions and computers, when entering the room of Mr. Mudge, noticed he was lying on the side of the bed. Peter C. Mudge's head was covered with a polythene bag, which was secured with industrial tape, also showed at least 15 injuries on the body caused by a sharp object. About 13:00 pm the body was taken place by staff from the Medical Examiner and taken to their facilities to conduct the autopsy and pinpoint the cause of death, the number of injuries presented and the approximate time of death. Also, specialized experts conducted a site inspection, so the PGJE assumed that the motive for the killing might result from a robbery, but still not ruled out other possibilities. Dismay American neighbors said surprised and dismayed by the crime, as Peter Mudge was a friendly person, very polite and smiling, even offered to teach English for free. When questioned by the preventive, settlers reported not to have noticed anything suspicious during the night or early Tuesday. For several hours, agents specializing in killings carried out the inspection of the site, while residents remained on the lookout and trying to remember something that would help agents to determine the identity of the person or persons responsible. A similar case On September 21, 2010, in San Miguel de Allende, was murdered by Rosa Elena Pérez Espino, 58, inside his home located on 27th Street Guadiana Guadiana the colony. Presumably the morning of that day arrived at the home of Rosa Elena Pérez Espino two men and a woman wearing a blue uniform, those who threaten and then killed with a bullet in the head, but in this case there was a robbery housing. On 27 October the same year, the PGJE formed the arrest of Edgar Hernández Zárate and / or Erik Hernández Zárate 27-year-old native of Querétaro, charged with the murder of Rosa Elena Pérez Espino, while a domestic worker who witnessed Crime confirmed that this man was carrying the gun, but this case is still under investigation. The plastic bag doesn't necessarily fit with that, I wouldn't think. It also says robbery.

The reports say several big items were taken, including computer and microwave and TV, the usual things you'd expect to be taken in a home robbery. We're just speculating here, of course. I can imagine a crime of passion with the killer then using the plastic bag to be absolutely sure there could be no chance of recovery later, and while there of course take big ticket items, why not?
The fact there was no broken door or windows and the only apparent entrance is through the door, then locked behind after the crime, also suggests the murder was by someone who knew the man, though again, we have no idea for sure of anything. I watch too many crime shows. Carol Schmidt http://www.am.com.mx/Nota.aspx?ID=451885 Old U.S. murder EDITORIAL / San Miguel de Allende An old man aged 85 and U.S. origin was killed yesterday at his home in San Miguel de Allende, according to the authorities had several stab wounds and a plastic bag tied around his head. Around nine o'clock yesterday morning, staff from the Municipal Public Security Bureau received a report of a man killed in Privada de las Flores No.3, interior 6 of the colony Allende. The victim was identified as Peter C. Mudge, U.S. 85- year-old whose body was found by his maid, who already had 24 years working for him. Upon arriving at work as usual, the woman saw that everything was closed, so he entered the room and found his master lying on the floor next to the bed immediately called for help from the Red Cross, but the arrival of the paramedics told him that he had no vital signs. "I was living here 10 years ago and I was alone, her children are in the United States, her maid said it was the only family she had, she was the one who found him, is in pieces, in the morning I could not give declaration, residents said. Then came police who examined the body and noticed at first glance a plastic bag on his head, which was secured with duct tape to industrial type eye level. Also had at least 10 wounds with sharp, pointed weapon in the chest. Neighbors said he or murderers could only have come through the door, it is the only access, it appears that no window was broken and considered unlikely to have jumped on the roof. "For me it was someone I knew, because the door was locked when the girl came clean, no forced entry, the only way in is through the front door, there is no other way," said a neighbor. At home was several electronic devices such as two televisions, a microwave and a computer, which authorities believe the robbery as a motive for the killing, but did not rule out another possible line of research. "He was very quiet and very respectful, was already a person pensioner and my experience was very charitable, as gravel and sand gave me when I was farm," said another neighbor. Staff from the Medical Examiner (Semefo) moved the body to its facilities in order to carry the autopsy and determine the cause of death, agency officials No. 4 of the Public Prosecutor of the city of San Miguel de Allende initiated a preliminary investigation 34/2011. Ask for more security Americans living in San Miguel de Allende agreed to note that robberies are increasing, but said they feel safe. Most consider that the city is very quiet and hope that the case of Peter C. Mudge, norteameircano old 85 years old, who was killed early yesterday inside his home, presumably to steal it, is an isolated incident. "May it be an isolated incident and the Public Ministry to hold the perpetrators, because the justice system is half-broken," said a U.S. resident. "I have 20 years living here and we had no problems, but in recent years can be heard coming to rob the houses to a friend who is paralyzed beat him to rob her house. I hope the Attorney General and put in jail, "said another. Some fear the insecurity in the country is getting worse. "It has always been this kind of theft, three years ago a couple stabbed, left so severe that the helicopter had to bring the U.S. (...) I protect myself with five dogs and I have no problems," said a women. |

Are there paralells between this murder and those of Steven Dersey and Rob Evans a year or 2 ago? The MO sounds shockingly similar.

Thanks for your updates and amplifications --I found that Eco, the Spanish weekly in SMA has a website and now I check it often.
I wish my Spanish were good enough to understand the radio news. Vast world of things -- good and bad -- that happens out there....that we are in the dark about. In the Guadalajara Reporter, English weekly in Jalisco state, there's a story about two teens held in murder of gringo in his 60s...
