American Killed in San Miguel Allende

By: El Sol del Bajio
19-01-2011

San Miguel Allende, Gto .- This half-day was found the corpse of an American-born man who was allegedly killed during the night in his home in this colonial city, which lay for 10 years.

The maid was the one who discovered the body when he arrived with the intention of cleaning up and found him in a room with a plastic bag covering his face, so everything indicates that the cause of death was mechanical asphyxia.

Preliminary investigations suggest that it was a robbery, but has not ruled out any line of investigation.

Residents of the colony Allende, which recorded the finding, mentioned that the now deceased, identified as Peter Nuyde, about 80 years old and retired in the neighboring country to the north, was a selfless person who loved teaching English, free to anyone who requests it

A U.S. citizen 85 years of age was found murdered at home in this county, which lies a large community of people from the neighboring country.

The victim was identified as Peter C. Mudge, who was domiciled in the colony Allende, where he was deprived of his life.

According to law enforcement authorities, the man had his head covered with a plastic bag, which was laced with industrial tape in the eye.
Had at least 15 stab injuries.

The Attorney General of the State opened a preliminary investigation into the Agency 34/2011 4 of the city of San Miguel de Allende.

A woman who told authorities that for over 24 years works as a maid of the victim, said today that approximately at 9:05, when he arrived home, she noticed that everything was closed as usual .

However, upon entering the room of Mr. Peter, found him lying on the side of his bed on the floor, so it asked for help to authorities.

Red Cross paramedics reported that the man had no vital signs and had already died.

Although the motive could be robbery, the suspect has not been confirmed by authorities.

Default Sad if true

In 2002 I was staying at Casita de la Flores for a short stay. Next door to the Casita lived Mr Mudge. By chance I met him in the little alley way that led to the main road. It was a pleasant encounter. He invited me into his home. It was apparent he enjoyed showing his home and giving a kind of history of what he had done in the way of improvements. We had lunch and talked of his involvments in the SMA community. It was a chance meeting but not uncommon in my days in SMA. A lady freind once called these encounters "A San Miguel evening", where folks, by chance hit it off and just enjoyed the moment. Peter was just that sort of person. Ready to open his home and chat about what he loved doing, namely restoring old run-down homes. As the years passed on he'd become more rickety and perhaps had let his guard down. I enjoyed our brief "San Miguel Evening" and I suppose many others over the years had known and enjoyed his company in a similar way.

Default Stabbed 15 times--a crime of passion?

Not only was a plastic bag over his head to asphyxiate him, but he had been stabbed at least 15 times by a sharp object, according to the latest report below from El Correo.

Only based on what I hear from TV shows and news reports, aren't multiple stab wounds usually a sign of a crime of passion? And passion can include jealousy, revenge, greed, and honor killings as well as love.

Peter Mudge was a director of the Biblioteca House and Gardens tours for many years. Here is the website of his advertisement for his rental property at his house:

According to the ad for his apartment on Trip Advisor, he was an interior designer.

And below is the link to the Correo story and a computer translation.

It compares the murder to that of the woman business owner in Guadiana last September, in which there have been arrests and the investigation is ongoing.

Kill foreign

By: American Ortiz / SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE, Wednesday, January 19, 2011

The victim, aged 85, his face covered with a bag and had stab injuries. Investigate robbery as a motive.

An American in 85 years, who already had more than 25 years living in San Miguel de Allende, was killed inside his home located in Colonia Allende.
The maid made the finding, and immediately reported it to the Central Emergency 066.

The victim, Peter C. Mudge 85 years old, had her head covered with a polythene bag and multiple stab injuries on the body weapon.

According to neighbors of the deceased, Peter had at least eight years in the private Las Flores # 3 interior 6, it was a good person, even taught English at no cost.

The report
Minutes after 9:00 Tuesday morning, 066 Emergency Central received a report of a woman who claimed that in one of three private houses in the Calle Las Flores, Colonia Allende, was the body of a man.

At the scene came elements of Public Safety, who confirmed the report and immediately alerted the Red Cross paramedics to come to check on the victim, originally from the United States.

After confirming the death, the house was guarded by security officials, who notified the Attorney General and Ministerial Police arrived minutes later and 4 of the Public Ministry Agency, who initiated the integration of the preliminary investigation, established under the number 34 / 2011.

The finding
The Attorney General of the State (PGJE) reported that the man was found by his maid minutes after 09:00 am on Tuesday, lying next to his bed.

Also, REPORTING had worked with the victim over 24 years, said that when she came inside the building 3 6 Calle Privada de las Flores of the colony Allende, the doors were closed as usual.

But upon entering the property, noticed a shortage of American's belongings such as televisions and computers, when entering the room of Mr. Mudge, noticed he was lying on the side of the bed.

Peter C. Mudge's head was covered with a polythene bag, which was secured with industrial tape, also showed at least 15 injuries on the body caused by a sharp object.

About 13:00 pm the body was taken place by staff from the Medical Examiner and taken to their facilities to conduct the autopsy and pinpoint the cause of death, the number of injuries presented and the approximate time of death.

Also, specialized experts conducted a site inspection, so the PGJE assumed that the motive for the killing might result from a robbery, but still not ruled out other possibilities.

Dismay
American neighbors said surprised and dismayed by the crime, as Peter Mudge was a friendly person, very polite and smiling, even offered to teach English for free.

When questioned by the preventive, settlers reported not to have noticed anything suspicious during the night or early Tuesday. For several hours, agents specializing in killings carried out the inspection of the site, while residents remained on the lookout and trying to remember something that would help agents to determine the identity of the person or persons responsible.

A similar case
On September 21, 2010, in San Miguel de Allende, was murdered by Rosa Elena Pérez Espino, 58, inside his home located on 27th Street Guadiana Guadiana the colony.

Presumably the morning of that day arrived at the home of Rosa Elena Pérez Espino two men and a woman wearing a blue uniform, those who threaten and then killed with a bullet in the head, but in this case there was a robbery housing.

On 27 October the same year, the PGJE formed the arrest of Edgar Hernández Zárate and / or Erik Hernández Zárate 27-year-old native of Querétaro, charged with the murder of Rosa Elena Pérez Espino, while a domestic worker who witnessed Crime confirmed that this man was carrying the gun, but this case is still under investigation.

The plastic bag doesn't necessarily fit with that, I wouldn't think. It also says robbery.
